We had so much fun on our family vakay in Southern California. There are some "must-see's" and certainly some things that might be considered a waste of time [tourist traps]. Here's my list of Do's and Don'ts if your traveling to Cali in the near future!
Do:
Lake Holly Park [best views of the Hollywood sign]
Griffith Park Observatory [views of downtown LA]
Drive around the Hollywood Hills
Santa Monica Pier
The Grove & Farmer's Market
Drive up to Malibu [my favorite place]
Beverly Hills Hotel Pool [such a vibe]
Abbot Kinney [super cool shops & restuarants]
Don't:
Third Street Promenade [basically an outdoor mall]
Rodeo Drive [it's cool for about 5 minutes]
Hollywood Walk of Fame [unless you're into crowded, dirty streets]
Venice Beach/Boardwalk [it's quite a scene]
any tourist rides/tours/celebrity scoutings
Top Eats:
Urth Caffe [Santa Monica]
Nobu [Malibu]
Paradise Cove Beach Cafe [Malibu]
The Cabana Cafe at the Beverly Hills Hotel [Beverly Hills]
Malibu Farms [Malibu]
Coolhaus [food truck]
Cafe Gratitude [LA]
Coogie's [Malibu]
Don't - eat at chain restaurants… there's so many amazing local restaurants to try out! Every place we went to was delicious & unique.
*If you're debating on where to travel next [within the US] I'd recommend Southern Cali over & over again…
